Choosing the right equipment for a processing plant can be a daunting task, especially given the negative consequences of a valve installation. Luckily, we’re here to help. Roto-Disc is a trusted manufacturer of valves, airlocks, and diverters for dry and slurry material handling.
Roto-Disc is dedicated to empowering clients with the knowledge they need to choose the right equipment for their processes. In today’s blog, experts with Roto-Disc will discuss spherical disc valves and the reasons why they are good to have.
Spherical Disc Valve
A spherical disc valve can be used in a variety of applications for a variety of materials. It can also be used. It can also be used in processes where there is concern for material adhering to product contact equipment surfaces.
There are three main reasons for using a spherical disc valve on equipment.
Full Open Port
Not all valves are fully open when materials are passing through them. The spherical disc valve rotates out of the flow-path when open to allow for maximum flow capacity through its port.
Powder Jamming Prevention
When other valves are open, they can trap material inside them, causing them to jam. This usually occurs between the disc, ball or slide-gate and the housing of the valve.
The spherical disc valve wipes clean with each cycle and has no place to trap material, so it won’t jam.
Tight Sealing
The wiping action of the spherical disc in the valve wipes material that could build up on the seat. This provides a positive seal when it closes, and it ultimately prolongs the life of the equipment.
Spherical disc valves are an excellent investment for any company seeking a shut-off or double-dump valve that won’t jam or leak and that will have little or no maintenance requirements.
